8 Foods That Help Your Hair Grow Faster
Whether you’re in the midst of trying to recover your strands from a misguided cut or simply want longer locks, you may have a hard time patiently waiting for your hair to grow. (We’ve been there.)
Luckily, unlike the watched pot that never boils, concentrating on your hair growth can yield actual results, particularly when it comes to strategic eating. Here are eight foods that help lengthen your mane, recommended by Harvard and Yale Medical School-trained nutritionist Jayson Calton, PhD, and licensed nutritionist and fitness chef Mira Calton, CN.
1. Salmon: This fish is loaded with the strong hair supporters like Vitamin D and protein, but it also contains omega-3 fatty acids that promote hair growth by keeping your scalp healthy.
2. Yellow Peppers: Yellow bell peppers have nearly five and a half times more vitamin C than oranges (341 milligrams, as opposed to 63). This is good news for your locks since vitamin C is an antioxidant that strengthens the hair shaft and hair follicles, as well as prevents breakage.
3. Oysters: Zinc deficiency has been noted to cause hair loss and poor scalp conditions and oysters are loadedwith zinc — just three ounces contain 493 percent of your daily value. But not just any oysters will do: Steer clear of the ones caught in the Gulf of Mexico, which may contain unusually high levels of Cadmium due to the 2010 BP oil spill.
4. Eggs: Eggs are an excellent source of those aforementioned omega-3s, and they are also contain biotin (which many people trying to grow their hair take in supplement form). But, just so you’re aware, it’s not the egg white that will make your hair long and beautiful, it’s the yolk. Eating too many egg whites can actually block the absorption of biotin into the body, causing a depletion of this micronutrient.
5. Sunflower Seeds: Just a few little seeds can supply you with an abundance of vitamin E, which will enhance blood flow to the scalp and promote faster hair growth.
6. Sweet Potatoes: These are loaded with beta carotene, the precursor for vitamin A that not only promotes a healthy scalp but promotes hair growth. But choose foods loaded with beta carotene over supplementing with high doses — like over 2500 milligrams — of vitamin A from retinol since it can be toxic at very high levels.
7. Avocados: Due to their high concentration of essential fatty acids naturally found in skin cells (which help to keep your skin smooth and supple), avocados are an age-old beauty secret. When topically applied to the hair and scalp, they have the added ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Mix a little avocado with sour cream (which contains lactic acid to help exfoliate dead skin and clean up buildup on the scalp) and apply to your hair and scalp for about ten minutes before washing it off.
8. Almonds: These nuts will make your hair grow faster and thicker due to their high biotin content. One cup contains nearly one-third of your daily requirement. You should be able to see the results in a month or two of adding them to your diet.

This homemade facial scrub soap is a gentle, yet deeply cleansing soap. The poppy seeds will exfoliate your skin as well as unblock the pores, whilst the natural oils moisten and nourish your skin.Comprising an excellent mix of essential oils to give a fruity fragrance which has a touch of cinnamon, this is among the best homemade face scrubs for men, and it’ll definitely put a spring back in to your step, leaving you feeling fresh, smooth and raring to go.

orange and coconut oil scrub
Delicious Scrub Recipe
1 cup organic cane sugar
1/3 cup celtic sea salt
1/2 cup organic coconut oil
2-3 tablespoons almond oil
1 tablespoon vitamin e
Lavender Essential Oil
1/3 cup celtic sea salt
1/2 cup organic coconut oil
2-3 tablespoons almond oil
1 tablespoon vitamin e
Lavender Essential Oil
Scrubs are a wonderful way to gently exfoliate and leave you feeling fresh and renewed. Making your own is a breeze, and most the time you can use what you already have at home. I start with a recycled jar, and then add a little bit of the salt, sugar, coconut oil {one at a time so I can control the consistency} and then add the rest of the ingredients.
Let me know your thoughts if you try it out!

Ladder Braid Side Ponytail | Cute Hairstyles
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 3 small hair elastics, hairspray and accessory {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes
Skill Level: Hard
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by brushing all the hair over to one side, like you are gathering a side ponytail…
- Pick up a small section of hair on the underneath side of the head next to the nape of the neck, and secure the rest of the hair out of the way with a large hairband…
- Grabbing the small section, begin making a simple braid…
- As you go to cross over the outside-left strand of hair, pull out a tiny sliver-strand of hair and leave it out of the braid…
- Repeat the same with the next stitch of the braid. As you go to cross over the outside-left strand again, pull out a sliver-strand of hair and leave it out of the braid…
- Repeat until you have 2-3 inches left in the braid, and secure with an elastic. This braid is what you call a Feather Braid.
- Now, release the rest of the hair from the large hairband and pick up another similar-sized small section of hair {this time near the front}…
- Braid approximately 4-5 stitches into this braid and then add the first sliver of hair from the Feather Braid into the middle strand…
- Complete one more stitch of the braid, and again, add in the 2nd sliver of hair from the Feather Braid into the middle strand…
- Continue until you run out of slivers to use, and then finish off with a normal braid and secure with an elastic. You should have a ladder looking braid sitting on top of the remaining hair.
- Now, reach your fingers through the bottom two “rungs” of the Ladder Braid and pull the remaining hair though the rungs…
- Remove both small elastics from the side braids, gather all of the ends together and secure with one hair elastic.
Enjoy!
Ladder Braid Combo
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, 2 hair elastics.
Time Requirement: 5-8 minutes.
Skill Level: Medium
- Take the first five feathers, or so, and flip them up and over the head to keep them out of the way while you begin your second braid…
- Pick up another small section of hair, 1-2 inches below the other braid, and begin a regular braid with one stitch…
- Now, add in hair from the top…which essentially creates another Lace Braid. {The difference is that you will only be adding in the “feather” strands from the first braid.}
- Continue braiding, adding in a feather strand into each top strand of the Lace Braid, as you go. This is creating a Ladder Braid, with the feather strands now becoming “rungs” on the ladder…
- As you braid, try to keep the braids about 1-2 inches apart to allow the ladder effect to remain…
- Continue ladder braiding as you work your way around the head.
- When you get near the opposite ear, stop adding in hair and finish off the strand into a normal braid…
- Secure with an elastic.
Fluffy Fishtail Braid | Hairstyles for Long Hair
* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 smoothing brush, 1 hair band, 1 small hair elastic, hairspray/pomade and accessory {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5-7 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by styling hair into a high ponytail {you can do a pompadour in front, or even a single Frenchback, to add some extra flair to the hairstyle}…
- Take a small section of hair and wrap the strand around the elastic, to hide it, and secure with a bobby pin…
- Next, take a rat-tail comb and back comb the top half of the hair in the ponytail. You do this by lifting layer by layer, and back combing the hair down to the roots. Do this for the top half of the ponytail only {leave the underside of the ponytail as is}…
- Now, using a smoothing brush, gently brush the surface hair, and any rough spots from the teasing, so that they top layer of the ponytail is smooth and straight…
- For the braid, go about 6-8 inches down the ponytail and begin a regular fishtail braid….
- Continue the fishtail braid until you are within a few inches of the ends of your hair, and secure with a small elastic.
- Go back and gently loosen the braid for a more full look, and especially tug up the surface hair on the top section of the ponytail {this will further add to the volume you created with the back combing in Step #4}…
- Add any hairspray or accessories desired.
